About me / About business or organisation:
Nieves Ruiz Ramos has over 11 years’ experience within the fashion industry, having graduated from universities in both Spain and France. She started out as a Designer for Zara before progressing as a Woven and Knitwear Designer for labels such as Corte Ingles in Spain and Seduce in Australia. She went on to work as Head Designer for a London fashion company that supplies collections to Top Shop, River Island and Asos.
Disenchanted with the ‘fast fashion’ trend and its negative repercussions Nieves decided to go it alone in 2007. She now designs for and manages her own company ‘bibico’ - a Fair Trade label that seeks to bring Fair Trade, on-trend fashion to the high-street.
Her delightfully stylish collections are manufactured in a slum community in India by women who are as passionate about making high quality garments as they are about transforming their communities. The Aran Knit, Helping People From the Beginning

Posted on October 7, 2009 at 16:31 0 Comments

This season knitwear is in big-time. Big chunky knits with cable patterns are everywhere on the catwalk and the high street. As bibico is ethical while on trend, we also have knits piled up at our HQ. We found it interesting, while researching the knit, that there's a link between the Aran Islands a century ago and Nepal now. That link is the alleviation of money issues through knitting. In the Aran Islands, off the west coast of Ireland it's likely that women knitted the jumpers not just to… Continue

Green Knickers Fun

Posted on September 23, 2009 at 11:25 0 Comments

bibico was on Guardian online this morning and came across a photo of Green Knickers, environmentally-friendly underwear with a message. We found this article on The Ecologist's website:

http://www.theecologist.org/green_green_living/clothing/269680/good_clean_fun.htm

They have a “range of ‘understatement’ knickers with ‘Stop Deforestation’ and ‘Cycle More’ embroidered on them, and ‘Love the World’ hearts on globes.” The photos on their website really made us giggle. It’s great to see… Continue

Hi Nieves, happy new year!

Sorry I haven't been in touch recently, I'm still working on your article for The Source, would I be able to call you at some point to ask you a few more questions? Just basic questions such as when you started Bibico because I was so busy chatting to you I forgot to ask them!

Also, my boyfriend bought me one of your dresses (the Marine Dress) for Christmas, and I love it!

Best,

Cindy x
