Hi all,
I am a designer based in Europe looking for projects within the fashion/textile industry in Africa to help out with. I am planning on taking time off this autumn and would be happy to be connected to anyone who might need my experience and help. I currently work as a design consultant for H&M and other brands in Sweden with capsule collections, sustainability and collaborations. Being born and raised in Africa, I would like to get more involved in the growing textile industry, as well as contribute with my expertise.
I am also sourcing embellishments from the continent, such as metal beads, appliques and other ethnic materials for a project I am working on.
All the best,
Ella
Hello all,
I am currently in Karatu, Tanzania, and looking to learn more about the sustainability of the textile industry here. Can anyone recommend any resources, companies, or initiatives that I should look into contacting?
Thanks!
Mallory
Hi Jacqueline,
This is a good thing you are doing! I work with Artsians in Sierra Leone that make all the products I sell. Please have a look at our website and let me know what you think. The website is www.projectsierraleone.com

Hi Prama - thanks for your comment. I was in Tanzania last year but didn't quite make it to Arusha. Hopefully I'll be back later in the year and would be very interested in visiting Sunflag - I know all about you already!
Sarah - thanks for the tips. I hadn't heard of Village Artisinal so I'll look them up when I'm in Ouaga. I think most of the textile mills are industrial/uniform fabrics for the local market but I'll investigate further. I think hand-woven fabrics from Burkina are the way to go. And I think that place outside of Ouaga is exactly where I'm going...!
