Salone Style is looking for artisans to source components for our jewellery: specifically wood, glass, bone and metal. facebook.com/salonestyle

Style with substance

Salone Style combines contemporary design with traditional African materials. We create vibrant, one of a kind designs inspired by the beautiful surroundings and fun loving people of Sierra Leone, a small country on the West coast of Africa.

Ecochic....and unique

Our modern designs mix the bold graphics and vivid hues of West African textiles with eco-friendly materials made of bone, metal, clay, recycled glass, paper and coconut shells. All materials are sourced locally through artisans and traders. No two items are the same.

Design doing good

We are a design driven social enterprise. Each piece is handcrafted by women in Sierra Leone who are being paid fair wages for their work. In a country where the average earnings are just over $1 dollar a day, these women are being empowered through new skills and economic opportunities to provide for themselves and their families. All proceeds from the sale of our jewellery are invested back into the social enterprise.

Hi Meaghan,

I'm sorry you missed out on the last EFF NYC social- but have no fear, there will be more to come (and since you joined the group, you will be in the loop). I was just reading your pro- you and I have very similar interests pertaining to sustainable development + ethical fashion. I'm also in Grad school studying CSR/social entrepreneurship. I'd love to meet you one day. Are you based in NYC?

ciao, Rita

Hi Meaghan,
Great to meet you. I'd love to hear more about what you are doing with EFF and your studies, which sound fantastic. Very in line with what The Uniform Project aims to do. Will you be anywhere near Mumbai January 14th?

Best,
Eliza

Well isn't it this just awesome :o) I am officially renaming the big wide world as the village next door :o) I was actually in London just recently, being last week and then also five weeks ago. I'll get in touch next time I come over if its before September and come visit the EFF. Oh by the way Jo formerly of EFF at the CHOGM 2007 is now working on a fashion manufacturing project in Kenya. I'll be back in London again towards the end of September to interview fashion graduates for design positions in the new fashion house we're working on at the moment. Otherwise Kampala's a true joy as always :o) I have been supplying clothes factories in uganda with cotton poplin, and crepe chiffon as my first few steps into fashion industry propre,
