About me / About business or organisation:
Beautiful Soul is an eco-aware, luxury label with a primary focus on womenswear that also designs and carries a capsule menswear range.

Comprehending the impact that the fashion industry alone has on our environment is something of an eye opener and my charge is to delve below the surface of fashion, discovering new ways to incorporate responsibility through use of distinctive materials while adding exclusivity and a spirit of conversation.

Beautiful Soul aims to source and recycle the most exquisite fabrics from around the globe, and has made a name for itself with its unique use of vintage Japanese kimonos, which are upcycled into expertly tailored garments.

We also carry a ready-to-wear collection, incorporating our own original prints, in addition to sustainable organic fabric and end of line factory waste. This allows for wholesale orders but sits comfortably alongside the rest of the brands exclusive designs.

Beautiful Soul already has a strong following including international model and VOGUE.COM contributor, Laura Bailey, world-renowned model and actress, Lily Cole, the Prime Minister’s wife, Samantha Cameron, fashion and celebrity stylist, Rebekah Roy and singer/songwriter Gabby Young. Stockists of Beautiful Soul include our own e-commerce offering and the esteemed V&A.

I was trained at the prestigious London College of Fashion and I have recently won the Future 100 Award for changing the face of everyday business and improving commerce's impact on the wider world. I was short-listed for the Hospital Club 100 Award 2010 in association with the Independent Newspaper, won the Ethical Fashion Forum's INNOVATION award in 2009, and was a finalist at Fashioning the future 2009.

Beautiful Soul has attracted mass press attention through involvement in major fashion exhibitions including London Fashion Week and Interstoff Asia in Hong Kong.

Our objective is to build a brand that offers transparency and a triple bottom line, of treating people, planet and profit with equal respect. Taking responsibility for the planet is not a trend, it is the only way forward and it takes innovative, pioneering individuals to make changes.
Career history / Company history:
A skilled and successful businesswoman, I spent eleven years in the insurance industry, before refocusing my passion and talent to a market segment that is underexplored and in its infancy of development. With unbridled determination to launch and grow my own sustainable fashion business, Beautiful Soul became a reality in November 2008.

You just have to *believe*... stay positive and work hard!

Hello there, my name is Katrina O’Brien and I am currently doing primary research for my Dissertation. My question is: “Could the Fashion and Textile Industry be greener by using modern technology?
A brief intro: I will be doing my dissertation on sustainability; I am a strong believer that the Industry cannot continue on its present course. I will give a quick over view on clothes then paper. My point about technology and paper is that we all know Fashion is not only clothes but magazines and books and so on. Fashion magazines are a huge part of the Fashion and Textile industry; tragically they do as much damage as the clothes. But sadly magazine companies aren't really being that helpful when I ask them about environmental awareness.
I was wondering if you knew anyone that could point me in the right direction or if you yourself knew anything that could help me? If you want I can also do a case study about your company to prove my point. Thanks! If you would like to email me, my address is katrina.obrien@commsone.com
Take care and thank you for your time

Hi Nicola,

I've noticed that you worked as a designer for a charity in South Africa. Therefore I would like to invite you to join the Africa group. I'm the group administrator and will keep you informed of upcoming events as well as sending you relevant information that I find. See you there :)
