Maiya launches debut collection for S/S ‘12

www.maiyafashion.co.uk

Maiya launch their exciting new ethical fashion womenswear label with their debut collection for Spring/Summer 2012.

Maiya use a range of organic, fair trade and sustainable fabrics, energy conscious and waste reducing initiatives to create elegant, desirable fashion.

Spring/Summer collection 2012

Maiya collections, with their beautiful detailing, sophisticated design and quality craftsmanship take inspiration from vintage eras fused with contemporary style. The first ready-to-wear collection focuses on tailored day and eveningwear dresses alongside a classically styled double-breasted trench coat.

The Rachel Dress is a pretty 50s inspired tie-neck day dress offered in two eye-catching print colour-ways (organic cotton). The Heulwen Dress adds a transitional element to the collection, taking you from day into eveningwear in finest vintage floaty pinky-peach silk, fitted waist and pleated skirt in charcoal ottoman silk.

Maiya’s range of party dresses in vintage silks and hemp/silk charmeuse offer a touch of luxurious glamour. The romantic Hanneke Dress in swathes of vintage silk chiffon features hand-pleated habotai silk detailing. The fabulous Eva Dress is ‘the’ summer party essential this season, a true classic little black dress in heavenly pleated black hemp/silk charmeuse.

The exquisite double-breasted Lorelei Trench Coat, available in red, blue and cream organic herringbone weave cotton, offers a warmer option for the unpredictable British summer. The epitome of tailored eco-chic, it is fully lined in vintage fabric, featuring vintage buttons and bound buttonholes.
Career history / Company history:
My interest in ethical fashion started in 2005 when I teamed up with two friends for a university project working with Oxfam. We came up with the idea of redesigning existing garments and selling vintage clothing in their Swansea store. They were happy for us to make use of their waste clothing. From this we then produced the Oxfam Originals collection and held events raising £2000 for Oxfam by selling the clothing.

This project spurred my thoughts on the destructive nature of textile production and encouraged my desire to work in the ethical fashion industry, keeping ecological design and manufacturing of paramount importance.

    Hi Helen,

Good luck with the label launch!!!

It would be great to keep in contact - I launched a label myself but realised my passion is in creating the textiles for designers to use... funny how that works out sometimes!!!

Be fantastic to keep posted of your journey.

    Take care,

    Rachel
