I am a recent graduate of the School of Oriental and African Studies where I studied BA Development Studies and Swahili (achieving 2.1). During my 4 years at SOAS I chose units in international trade and global labour standards furthering my passion for fair and ethical business. I focused my dissertation on ethical fashion from a development perspective by comparing the impact of Corporate Social Responsibility, labelling and certification and social businesses on labour standards in the garment industry.
The third year of my degree was spent abroad in East Africa where I greatly improved my Swahili language skills. Also during this year I worked at the SOKO workshop in Kenya ver a period of 3 months.
I am very passionate about the positive impact ethical business can have on some of the poorest sectors of the world, and particularly the potentials of the fashion industry to do this. I am keen to put my organisational skills, education and experience to use in this area.
Career history / Company history:
Assistant (voluntary) at SOKO-Kenya, Intern at Choolips, Volunteer at Upendo in Zanzibar, Wholesale Intern at People Tree, Researcher in Development Textile Projects and CSR Specialist for AfricaFashionGuide.
