Ethical Fashion label bibico wins award in Paris with ‘Britannia Chic’

British-based ethical fashion label bibico has won favour with the French, winning the desirable La Redoute Award at the 2009 Paris Ethical Fashion Show. The effortless, easy-to-wear style of the SS10 Collection delighted the judges who were also impressed by bibico’s Fair Trade credentials. Spanish born designer Nieves Ruiz-Ramos, who chose to base her new Fair Trade Fashion label in Britain, is delighted. She says, “My dreams of seeing ethical fashion integrated into the high-street are being realised.”

Nieves is currently working with La Redoute to create a capsule collection which will be based on her SS10 designs. The collection will feature in La Redoute’s SS10 catalogue which goes out to 13 million people across 22 countries.

SPRING 10: French Chic meets Britannia Cool

Britannia Chic: So what is it about the latest designs that caught the judges’ eyes in Paris? Nieves describes her collection as, “All the colours of the Union Jack with a generous dose of chic straight from the French Riviera.” It features cotton short-sleeved shirts with embroidery anglaise detailing, stripped mini-skirts and dresses in twill, plaid shirt-dresses and nautical stripes in red, white and blue. The collection also features hand-made cotton knits in cream, navy & red. Complete the look with an artfully hand-knitted scarf. It’s all very strawberries and cream at Wimbledon with a dash of Pimms in the park.
