ethically produced cotton in Israel, Egypt, Syria, Jordan

Posted on February 13, 2011 at 22:29 0 Comments

I'm working on an income generation project with women in the West Bank making pyjamas (www.hopesew.org)- all the profit from sales goes to the women. We are trying to source ethically produced cotton from the region, either from Israel, Egypt, Syria or Jordan. Does anyone have an ideas?!! Thank you!

Hi Lorna
Thanks for being in touch. It has been a surprise to me because I thought to be only interested to the "palestinian cause" in this network. Concerned my project, I wrote a post on my group Business and International Development ....You can have a look if you want. My project has come to a standstill at the moment, because I've submitted the proposal to an Italian Institution linked to some associations in Jerusalem. They deal with managament of European Social funds and they could grant me financial support if it will be approved. Lets get in thouch ..so I'll be able to let you know closer to the time. Anyway I don't have much experience in the Palestiniian territories..so any advise you can offer me would be greatly appreciate. Likewise if there is anything I can help you please feel free to contact me ...All the best Moira

Hi David,
Thanks for being in touch. Where is your project based? I would love to hear more. I am reading books at the moment about how to make the idea work and there seem lots of hurdles but I am hoping it that it can work. I am thinking of marketing the clothes in Palestine to start with and then marketing them internationally if it works. I know of a group of women and have an idea for a product but it's whether it will work on the ground that's the missing part of the puzzle! I'm hoping to return to Pal. at the end of the April. Please tell me more about your project, I love to hear about it.
