Profession / role:
Student
My primary role in relation to fashion is:
Student
I am looking to discover or buy
information and influential people, places and companies to further my knowledge on Ethical fashion!
About me / About business or organisation:
I am a Devonshire gal, now in my second year studying Fashion Design at Nottingham Trent. I am extremely satisfied with what this course has to offer and the opportunities we can make from it. I feel I am continually growing in confidence, whilst learning specialist skills for a future I want in fashion
‘The Ethical Fashion Consumer,’ is a module I have chosen as part of my second year of study. We have been learning and discussing about current issues that surround ethical responsibilities in the fashion supply chain; from cotton cultivation to differentiating the meanings of fair trade, ethical trade and sustainable fashion. I definitely think this module has been the best decision of my year so far, as I have always been interested in ‘Eco’ fashion since studying textiles at school. Ethical fashion is something I will continue to research throughout my degree; whether companies are ethical, fair trade, sustainable or all, it is an important code of practice that I think more designers should perform. This is a role I would like to demonstrate.
Career history / Company history:
I worked part time for Andrew Humphries Jewellers, an independent Jewellers in Budleigh Salterton, Devon for seven years. During this time I carried out sales and assisted with repairs and collections. As I gained more experience, my duties increased to dealing with suppliers and running the office. Working with Andrew also gave me an insight into the design and making of jewellery. Andrew also allowed me to put my artistic skills to good use as I organised the display cabinets and the shop window, including machining the fabrics for the displays.

I also approached M and M Direct and was invited to attend a week’s induction course. During this placement week I was given the opportunity to work for short periods of time in several departments, gaining an understanding about Marketing, Buying, Merchandising, Telesales, Human Resources and Returns.

I am now currently looking for work placements in the fashion industry for the holiday periods!
