I am 25 year-old lover of Snickers Bars, red wine and pasta, martini's and sushi, with a penchant for costume movies and reality TV shows.
With a small obsession for coffee, cupcakes and The Beatles, I also love working and relaxing outside as often as I can.
My small eco-friendly label, aims to provide South African consumers with a fun, quirky & beautiful range of clothing, that shows one does not need to give up personal style to be more eco-conscious!
I have recently met with a South African NGO that might provide the opportunity for me to get involved in skills-training and development of young teens and the communities supporting them. My heart beats faster every time I think of this...!
I love South Africa and feel blessed to have the opportunity to work here and aim to make a difference, even though it is very difficult to source eco-friendly fabrics and trims (etc).
I hope to someday be able to grow my business into a lifestyle store, offering consumers a wide variety of eco-trendy lifestyle choices.
Career history / Company history:
mot.eco-trendy lifestyle was only officially registered at the beginning of 2009, however has been in existence since December 2007 and providing private clients with garments since July 2008.
The business was originally born out of a university project and grew into an opportunity the designer could not ignore.
The designer has a Bachelors Degree in Fashion Design and Technology, with the final year's field of specialization being organic cotton. Experience includes an internship with leading South African designer Marianne Fassler as well as participating as finalist in various design competitions in South Africa.
The label mot.eco-trendy lifestyle has been growing as a custom-made garment business since 2008. With the small (yet growing) consumer market for green clothing, it has been struggling to get a Ready-to-Wear range onto the market, with finances and the availability of textiles being the major factors.

i am actually based in london UK but planning next easter to take quite a few trips to africa mostly east and west working with factories and getting things in place for business. I'd love to visit south africa and sure i will over the next few years
I've noticed that you're planning to get involved with skills training in South Africa and would therefore like to invite you to join the Africa group. I'm the group administrator and am sure you will find some useful information in the group. I'll contact you with relevant info and inform you of up-coming events. I look forward to seeing you in the group :)
Hello Marle, Im pleased to hear you love South Africa. Theres much to love and I like to hear people expressing pride in their heritage and potential.
I have something that will almost certainly interest you and which is to be used for the betterment of South Africa. If you look at the pics on my profile you will see a young woman modelling the first garment ever made in the South African tartan. The design incorporates the colours in the flag of South Africa. I produce 20 + accessories and gifts in the tartan as well as sheets of wrapping paper overprinted 'proudly South African'.
Not only is this the most eco-friendly of textiles but a percentage of the profits of sales from all cloth products + 1US$ from each sheet of paper must be donated to humanitarian or business start-up projects in South Africa.
Im already supporting two projects in the Cape Town area and work with craftworkers in World Women Trade Fair. I am now looking at producing the design in fairtrade certified organic cotton and a range of gift/carrier bags
If you are interested please give me an e-mail address and I'll send you more information.
