Centre for Sustainable Fashion Launch Shared Talent India

Are you a designer interested in working with sustainable Indian textiles, working collaboratively and sharing skills and perspectives? Would you be interested in having this work showcased at London and Indian fashion week in September 2009?

The Centre for Sustainable Fashion (CSF) are running Shared Talent India to recruit UK and Indian design talent to showcase fashion applications for sustainable Indian textiles. The CSF are seeking a team of 6 talented UK – based designers to engage with Indian designers and selected LCF, Pearl Academy and AMFI design students in a programme of activity including workshops and active design collaboration to produce concepts to showcase Indian sustainable textiles as a means to encourage trade in these textiles. This is an amazing opportunity for creative designers with an interest in sustainability to work collaboratively on a high-profile project. The Centre for Sustainable Fashion will cover all costs related to travel to and in India.

Hi Hannah,
This sounds great. I work with with co-operatatives producing hand spun hand woven fabrics in Gujarat, India. We give technical and design support to re-invent the age old hand spun, hand woven fabrics and produce 'almost carbon neutral' cottons, silks, wool and blends. We work with designers and wholesellers to produce furnishing and fashion garments. It will be wonderful to work with you. Kind regards. Shailini

Hi Hannah, I would be very interested to find out more about this as I work with and support the Panchachuli Women Weavers Co-operative from Uttaranchal in India. They hand spin, weave and vegetable dye lambswool fabrics. I am now importing these to the U.K. to help train a further 1,000 women in the area. Wonderful quality and great range of colours and weaves. Please do contact me at mary@panchachuli.co.uk as I also work with an ethical young designer who uses Panchachuli fabrics, Kind regards Mary
