just a forum to share ideas and find out more about ways in which one can work in fashion/textiles without having a negative impact, and possibly even a positive one!
About me / About business or organisation:
i really love what i do, designing and making clothes and fabrics, but am concerned about when i finish going into the industry which is very damaging to a lot of people around the world, sweat shops etc, i am interested in bringing some industry back to britain, monitoring working conditions and also fashion projects which might help communities around the world, and would like to share ideas.
Career history / Company history:
i have studied textiles for 2 years at alevel, completed a foundation in fine art and am currently studying a foundation degree in fashion.
i have also done a number of independant projects alongside, such as community workshops in lantern making, leather working and wire and bead jewellry making. I am in the beggining stages of a project with ayoung woman in tanzania, designing and making clothes together, and hope to sell these clothes, made to order, on a website, this has been difficult as she doesnt speak english and i dont speak swahili, but so far we have made some wonderful dresses, i have given her a wage that she dictated and also given her a sewing machine so she can do other work.
I am also studying silversmithing and am interested in finding out about ethical silver and precious stone.
