inspirational contemporary designers, information on environmentally friendly printing techniques
About me / About business or organisation:
Currently undertaking my 3rd year, in my degree programme in Textiles and Fashion Design, my specialist area being Printed textiles with a Fashion application. I am 22 years old and love what I do, therefore I hope to have a successful career in the field of textiles, my primary aim is to be a freelance designer. I enjoy Fashion, but it is not my first love, creating beautiful and interesting fabrics, exploring the possibilities and new techniques are what intrigues me the most. As a textile designer the fabric always comes first! I have a big concious and if I feel I am doing something that would harm someone or something I would be engulfed with masses of guilt, consequently this has affected my approaches to my work. I work with sustainability as the core element within my practices, challenging myself to work within these parameters has lead to interesting and unique findings for myself as a designer. The main challenge that I am presently faced with is the application of a product and sellable items to add another dimension to my collection. Furthermore I hope to inspire women with my garments, making them realise the potential of the clothes they already have in their wardrobe, meaning the clothing will not go to waste.
Career history / Company history:
Still in the process of setting down the ground works of my career, hope to gain as much experience, knowledge and contacts as possible to help me on my journey. Textile design is both something I enjoy but I am passionate about it, however the main problem I have is the way mass market fashion and the design paradigm that is currently in place is not catering for the diverse needs and wants of women within our society. I hope to challenge and question the fashion industry as it stands today, putting it in the spotlight and exposing the many flaws that it has.
