About me / About business or organisation:
In my spare time make clothes both for my own pleasure and as part of Oxfam's Remake Remodel in Newacastle. As part of this I also customise and renovate clothes they can't sell.

I'm a 6th form student from Newcastle and I'm studying for my A levels in Art and Textiles. I'm really interested in ethical fashion especially in trying raise awareness about the importance of it in the future of the fashion industry. I have always been a bit crazy about clothes and fashion and I plan to go onto study fashion design at university.

I have been doing the AQA Extended Project Qualification as well as my A-Levels, for which I am renovating second hand garments into modern, wearable and desirable pieces and also conducting workshops at my 6th form teaching people how to customise clothes into garments they want to wear very easily and cheaply.

I am doing my Art Foundation next year and am interested in work placement opportunities to expand my knowledge of ethical fashion within the industry.

wow simply wow, I really love your designs so colourful and full of life, some are even strange and a little scary but that just adds to the appeal, I think your clothing will do really well in Camden, or Portobello Road market. having done extensive research on emerging fashion trends in London your designs will fit right in.

Hi Mary. I cannot wait to see the sketches! You can send images to info@jhoole.org. I am also interested in hearing more about the kind of work you like to do... are you interested in researching for a collection at all?

Great! I am really glad that you are interested in helping! Do you usually create sketches first, or do you just begin working with fabrics? I know you are used to upcycling, so you might have a more hands-on approach. I would love for you to design a jacket out of a couple pairs of used jeans. We need something that is commercial and that we can mass produce out of a variety of recycled jeans. We also do jean skirts and bags, so if you would rather do one of those items, that would be fine too. Thanks!

Thanks, Mary. You have some very evocative pieces. I see you like to use recycled denim... that is one of Jhoole's primary materials! At the moment, we are mostly looking for creative designers interested in doing work pro-bono; if we find the right person however, it could evolve into a paid position. Please let me know if you are interested. Thanks!

Dear Mary-Emma,

Just a quick message to introduce my newly launched, ethical accessories co. NV London Calcutta, recently shortlisted in our launch season for the EFF's Innovation Award and voted as having one of the Top 10 Ethical accessories from the recent Pure Womenswear Exhibition at London's Olympia.

Please do visit our site www.NVLondonCalcutta.com where you can view the current Collection & learn more about the people and processes behind the label.
And coming soon, we'll be launching our all new, presentation packaged wallets and purses range, well in time for Christmas.

Please let me know if you would like any further information. All our goods are designed in Britain, but produced in India, specifically West Bengal, using locally sourced, natural materials, traditional production methods and environmentally friendly dyes etc.

If you'd like to be kept up to date with our happenings, you can join our mailing list (we promise not to spam you!) or become a fan of our facebook page - NV London Calcutta which features sneak previews of product and behind the scenes news etc.

Best wishes,

Naomi

Thanks Mary-Emma. The reason I asked is that I have a Newcastle tartan (also Sunderland). I do quite a few kilts for weddings and ties (Bobby Robson had one)and occasional scarves but I want to move it into into the realms of fashion. The colours are those of the Northumbria check (also NUFC) so they are very representative of Newcastle. I like the idea of people having a visual identity and a sense of belonging to a place and creating linkage with those in need by donating a % of the cost to say an African country. Maybe you know someone who would be interested?
