Hi again Claire. When Archbishop Desomond Tutu saw my South Africa tartan he remarked: 'At last, a rainbow cloth for the Rainbow Nation.' A fabric that could unite people of different colour, creed, tribe or class and give them a common identity. And if it can be produced without damaging the environment and help to alleviate needless poverty by creating employment and trnsferring wealth, then surely it must be a good thing. To help create awareness and encourage international co-operation and understanding I try to use the international language of fashion and in particular projects with fashion colleges that create links between young designers. I believe it can make for a better, fairer world more quickly. If you drop me a line at davidmcgill61@yahoo.co.uk or leave an e-mail address I'll be happy to send you more details

Hi Claire, last year I collaborated on a Japanese-themed fashion project with Grays Shool of Art, Aberdeen, Scotland - The Four Seasons. I gave them the tartans I designed. and they produced outfits as coats rather than dresses. It was very successful and the Japanese Consul General has organised a special show in October. This years theme will be 'Daughters of the Republic' and Im donating the North Carolina, South Carolina, New Jersey and Indiana State tartans. The brief will hint at Scarlett O'Hara, pioneers of the west, etc.
To keep it sensible on the catwalk I 'll supply pleated tartan skirts tammies scarves etc as I did with The Four Seasons. This is ethically-produced, eco-friendly, sustainable design at its best, but is also uniquely appropriate and has identity. Do you have any advice and are you interested in some form of collaboration?
