My highland background combined with my rediscovery of modernisation on the area has had a profound influence on my work and is a primary motivating factor behind my desire to establish a business influenced by Scottish traditions and locally produced materials.

    Hi Henrietta, the image of these sheep in my tartans went round the world on April 1st this year but I see them as my main suppliers: wool the most ethical textile of all.
    Yes I only design tartans and tartan products but not just any tartans. From wrapping paper to fashionwear tartan using the colours from national flags helps give countries an international identity, and by running things as a 'social business', feed and educate children and start up business for womens co-operatives. It is poorly used in the fashion industry. It doesnt have to be a complete outfit. It can simply be trimming or accessories although I've staged the first 'tartans for Africa' and 'Four Seasons' fashion shows where designers produced complete outfits in tartan. Im now getting designs made in cotton

  • Fashioning an Ethical Industry

    Hi Henrietta,

    We thought you might be interested in joining our new group on the Scottish Ethical Fashion Education Network!

    From September 2010 Fashioning an Ethical Industry will be working with Scottish universities and colleges to establish a network interested in teaching, learning and sharing about ethics in the fashion industry. With the support from FEI the Network will host events, develop resources and share best practice related to corporate social responsibility in the fashion industry.
