Regenerate clothing was founded and launched in Feb 2008 by May Cortazzi, who had previously worked for Marharishi, Boxfresh and Maria Chen before deciding on stepping out on her own and creating her own unique label.

Regenerate always remains unique from the mainstream by taking inspirations from: the music industry, historical archives and through traveling the world and undressing it!.

Regenerate HQ is based at The Shop, Nottingham, which I run as an in house screen printing design and fashion studio. I founded this in 2008. Shop is an multi-disciplinary creative space which offers a complete creative service. We work in all areas of art and design including :-graphics, screen print, web & multi-media, film, furniture and fashion design. We also have an extensive track record of organising and hosting exciting events. In addition, we have a retail and gallery space, which is used to exhibit and sell works by members and collaborators.

Career history / Company history:
I’m May Cortazzi, Founder of Regenerate Clothing and Director of Fashion at The Shop, Nottingham. In addition to this, I’m an ethical fashion campaigner and mentor.

For the last 12 years, I’ve worked within the fashion industry, for a variety of companies, which include:- Boxfresh, Maharishi and Maria Chen. Gaining wider experience, I have variously worked as a: - factory worker, technical assistant, designer, international sales rep, buyer, stylist, model scout, lecturer and NGO worker. These experiences have helped to develop my enormous passion and drive, leading me to run my own ethical fashion label called Regenerate.

My involvement within The Shop, has enabled me to create events, workshops and exhibitions with film makers, artists and designers, giving freedom for creative people in Nottingham to work together and express themselves.

Leading in a different capacity, I have also run International education campaigns and workshops. All these initiatives are designed help to educate our future generations about the industry and what we can do to improve the world of fashion in a practical, exciting way.

All of my work has been inspired by my work at The Barli Institute for Rural women, India, a charity helping women from remote villages develop skills to create an income for themselves.

    Hey May!

Whereabouts in Indonesia are you going to be? Jakarta, Bandung, or Bogor I'm guessing?

I have only found one factory so far that does organic cotton. It has been quite a challenging feat for me, I am still searching though. This factory only takes quite large quanities (too large for me, maybe ok for you), so I'm latching onto another label and buying some fabrics off his share. Do you want me to pass on his contact?

Can you let me know if what your findings are for organic cotton and bamboo? I adore bamboo textiles.

Are you interested in meeting up when you are over?

    hey May,

Sounds good! Do you know yet when are you going to be in Jakarta/Bandung? Are you going to be in Solo to check out the batik? (Did you know they have over 3400 batik patterns in Solo?! It's amazing.)

Have been in touch with my friend with the organic cotton, will let you know when he replies. What kind of quantities will you be needing?

Bamboo sounds interesting! Hadn't come across it so far yet here!

Have you already sussed out fair trade org. here?

    Speak soon again,
    Anja
