A really interesting book which covers most of the issues surrounding sustainable and ethical fashion production and distribution. There is a forward by Katharine Hamnet and several interviews with and profiles of the key people and brands making an impact in the ethical fashion sector including Peter Simon of Monsoon and Stuart Rose of M&S. There are chapters on labour practises, the impact of the production of different fabrics, the rise of the eco fashion movement and it's impact on the high street as well as DIY fashion, amongst other topics. There is also a really useful directory of designers, retailers and organisations at the back which is great if you are searching for ways to shop ethically.
This book is primarily aimed at the fashion consumer but I think it is useful if you are looking for inspiration on how to build a more ethical fashion business and would also be great for students looking at the sector. The author has put a lot of research into this and has striven to cover all possible areas so I would certainly recommend this book if you want to know more about the facts behind the ethics. The book was published in 2007 so some of the statistics and info about companies is a bit out of date now. However the core issues are still relevant and you can use the topics as a starting point for your own research if you want to know more.
