I am a BA Fashion Design student at the University of Westminster in London. I have just finished my second year of studies and have decided to take a year out to travel and gain experience of the fair trade and eco-friendly fashion industry, before returning to university and completing the last year of my course.

Fashion has been an interest to me for as long as I can remember and I have been determined for several years to make it my career. I hope to be involved in a label that is eco-friendly and promotes fair trade, ensuring everyone along the supply chain benefits from the company both in monetary terms and by encouraging improved techniques and ideas.

My parents both work in the international development sector and as a child I was fortunate to travel to many countries. I spent the first two years of my life living in Nepal, then my primary school years in the countryside of England. When I was twelve I moved with my family to Malawi where I spent six years at secondary school. We also travelled to various other countries for short periods. I then moved back to England to further my education at university in London. I have had the opportunity to see many different cultural styles and fashions and to gain an understanding of economic and business issues. My background has given me the intention to incorporate development work into my future career.

I feel I would benefit greatly from a placement, either paid or unpaid, with a company with similar ideals to my own. I am motivated and easy to get on with and would be happy to help in any way as well as observing and learning from the way the company works.

I have rough plans to be in London from october to december, then the US from january to maybe may/june. I then have until september 2010 to travel more, possibly to Africa or Asia, before going back to university.

If you are interested, or know of anyone who could be, please get in touch and feel free to ask any questions that I may have not covered.

Hi Katie
We're looking for an intern and are flexible with dates at the moment. In particular we're looking for someone who speaks another European language - do you have any language skills?
Thanks
Prama
Hi Prama
Thanks for showing interest, I got an A for GCSE French but that's as far as my language skills go I'm afraid. Where are you based and what kind of work are you looking for an intern to do?
Thanks,
Katie
Hi Katie

If you're still interested in an internship, get in touch. We would have a space coming up in a few months. We're a small company, so the work will be very varied - from usual admin stuff, to research, managing samples, to dealing with clients and getting involved in organising production of orders. Languages are a help, but OK without. Basically the work would be a mix of the stuff that needs to be done with some of where your interests lie. you can call me or Anna on 020 7224 8991 or email prama@mantisworld.com

Sounds like you have a few good offers there, well done!
Prama
Richard,

Thank you so much for your offer. I am very interested in spending time with you but unfortunately I have already secured a placement in London for October and November. Would it be possible to maybe come for just a few weeks at the start of decemeber? My dates for the other placement are not fixed yet so I will discuss with them the possibility of spending only 6 weeks with them rather than 8, then I could spend a month with you. How does that sound? I have had offers in several countries so it looks like I will be abroad from january, so Im not quite sure when else I could spend time with you in London, but I have been looking at your website and would really love to work with you. Sorry I'm not being very clear right now but I really hope we can work something out.
My email is lane_kfo@yahoo.co.uk feel free to be in touch that way if it's easier.

Thanks again,
Katie
