Query - fair trade gold - is this needed or not?

Hi, 

 

I have been told by a "no fair trade" jeweller that "fair-trade" gold would not be of interest within the fashion sector. Your thoughts would be appreciated, generally whether or not you feel that it could replace mainstream gold or should all gold, irrespective be fairly traded?
