Kerala Crafts - Made with Love

(Ladies from the Vimala Welfare Centre where they make baskets and bags)

Fellowship 500 Member, Kerala Crafts, was founded in 2001 as a response to witnessing the plight of many marginalized women in Kerala, southern India.

You either walk away or try and do something to help.

We chose to try and help.

By providing employment for many of these women, Kerala Crafts enables the women to help themselves, retain dignity and have a fair and sustainable living.

One project Kerala Crafts supports is the Vimala Welfare Centre.  This is a long established project, and Kerala Crafts have not sought to take control or impose our will on it.  Rather, they have provided practical help by opening up new outlets, thus helping to preserve traditions and unique skills already in place, but that could have otherwise declined. The women remain in full control.  The center make bags from sustainable local fibres, and baby dresses etc.

Kerala Crafts is holding a fundraising event on 20th October to raise funds to complete the rebuilding of the orphanage Valsalya Bhavan for girls.

Please go along and support the cause.
