Mzuzu based Wezi Mzumara has been an avid fashion fan from a young age, spending countless hours going through her mother’s wardrobe as a child. Growing up in Ethiopia, she developed a passion for accessories: detailed jewellery and handbags made from rich cotton materials and leather, which is available in abundance, and was fascinated by all things ‘stunning’. Spending most of her adult life in the UK, she was surrounded by high street fashions, where some of her design influences lie. Her move to Malawi from the UK last year increased her appreciation for Afro-Fashion and she realised that every lady/gentleman needs an accessory to contribute to their outfit. From creating earrings and bangles over the last year, she has diversified from shoes to bags to head pieces to elaborate tribal neck pieces. Designs by W is also working on a line of plus-size clothing for ladies, which will be available from January.

With the establishment of the new brand ATA-ARA, Wezi has been working with fellow FAME designer MisK (Kylie Uta) on several projects, including dressing Miss University Malawi, who competed in Miss University Africa in Lagos in 2012.
