About me / About business or organisation:: My name is Shingayi, I am the founder and creative director of Sunbird Collection, a start up online ethical and fairtrade manufacturer and retailer of fashion made in Africa.

Career history / Company history:: My family owns a small apparel manufacturing business in Zimbabwe. I grew up working at the factory, accompanying my mother to source fabric and meet with buyers. After I left Zimbabwe for the US, I worked in retail sales during Summer breaks and on Capital Hill during the historic passage of the Africa trade bill (AGOA). I have worked for the big guys on trade, but always felt like I wasn't being true to myself. Sunbird Collection is my way of finally getting back to me, to working on fair trade that build sustainable communities in the continent I call home.
