About me / About business or organisation:
British Made: A low impact, environmentally friendly fashion & illustration collection LALALAND by the new independent fashion/ textiles label SLC-SLC.

Creating in-house design in the rolling hills of rural Suffolk, from her Brightspace Studio, SLC is breathing life into forgotten industrial space by creating one of a kind hand made, hand finished garments in what was once an old timber workshop.

Work is completed with the use of natural dyes and illustrations are drawn from life in the local area, and then screen printed, hand silk painted or digitally printed onto predominantly natural fabrics such as bamboo and silk.

SLC-SLC is also proud to support British manufacturers, where available, & currently uses elastic from one of the last UK manufacturers in her knickers as well as supporting British made wool.
Career history / Company history:
Sarah’s work & experience has given her an ethical & artistic model to work to when creating locally sourced and low impact wear.

Most recently, she has had the pleasure to work as a Casual Costumier, after being chosen for a work experience programme for The Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London. The operas she worked on included Tannhauser, Adriana Lecouvreur & Anna Nicole. This work gave her vital experience of how to create collections for a production; something she likes to build upon in her own, strongly themed collections, often based in other worlds with a story behind each piece.

Prior to this, Sarah achieved a distinction in her work with the Suffolk School of Art & Design. Her illustrative, textile and fashion photo shoot work has also been chosen for exhibition by a panel of independent judges from the Glasgow School of Art at the Suffolk Showcase, the largest open call for work in the County. She has also had illustrative work from her LA LA LAND collection exhibited by Slackspace, Colchester.

Sarah began, however, by studying humankind in her Social Anthropology Degree. Whilst at University, she founded and co-edited a successful arts & current affairs magazine; Make Me Magazine. This was a great experience of working creatively and with other like minded people to achieve great fashion photography alongside interesting prose and illustration.

On graduation, she went on to work within the design field with Established & Sons, a famous design art company in London directed by Alasdhair Willis with strong links to Wallpaper Magazine and the fashion designer Stella McCartney.

After this, Sarah worked within the field of Human Rights as an event organiser and fundraiser with Rights & Humanity. Organising a congress on the Financial Crisis in 2008 in South Africa House, Trafalgar Square, London. From this she gained a valuable insight into sustainable methods of working, to create a new capitalism after the crisis.
