About me / About business or organisation:: I work as the Education and Training Officer for Fairtrade in the South West. Fairtrade is a different way of doing trade – one that seeks to combat the injustices that can be present in conventional trade and put people first. Fairtrade works with agreed, international standards designed and audited to ensure that producers in developing countries get a better deal.

Career history / Company history:: The predominant element of my current work portfolio with the Network is training people that support Fairtrade in the South West in advocacy work so that they can ensure good practice in procurement and advocate for Fairtrade consumption within companies, schools, local authorities, civil societies, faith groups and community settings. I currently lead a team that puts together all aspects of these training sessions. The training programme provides a thorough knowledge of why purchasing products with the Fairtrade mark improves the living conditions of farmers and workers in producer countries and the history of Fairtrade as an issue. It also covers how consumer choice can have an influence on the lives of farmers and workers in developing countries, the rationale for why product labelling is required, and good practice in explaining the issues to consumers. Time is dedicated in the classroom to discussing issues and questions trainees may have about the Fairtrade system.
