About me / About business or organisation:
A freelance designer since 2000, Michelle started Vesika Pisces in 2012, a line of swim and resort wear featuring eco-friendly, recycled and reclaimed fabrics and components. Custom fitting is offered in the Toronto area. All waste generated is recycled, with fabric offcuts saved for use in later collections. Only hemp or 100% recycled paper is used for promotional and administrative purposes. Michelle has made a pledge to continually address environmental impact until every aspect of Vesika Pisces is sustainable. Plans include creating components and accessories from recycled plastic and to find ways to improve upon inks used for printing both paper and fabric. Only upcycled leather and reclaimed wood is used within the collection.
Career history / Company history:
In Summer 2012, Michelle held a charity event, in honour of the Halton Peel BioDiversity Network, an organisation working to mainstream biodiversity issues within Halton-Peel region. Michelle will be working with HPBDN in Spring 2014,to raise awareness about the importance of remnant Carolinian and Mixedwood forest in the area. The Carolinian lifezone is the smallest eco-region in Canada, supporting the greatest amount of biodiversity, already 80% destroyed, with remaining portions under ever-increasing threat of development.
