From a background in Education, I am now studying a Master of Fashion and Textiles at RMIT in Melbourne, VIC, Australia. My goal is to gear my Master degree as much as possible toward Sustainability and to gain a solid foundation and understanding of the fashion industry. From there I am very interested in the potential for PhD research with a focus on sustainability at the consumer end of the supply chain. I am interested in looking internationally at leaders in this area and gaining an understanding of their processes and practice to somehow apply it back here in Australia where we are increasingly aware but globally not a front runner with regards to sustainability in the fashion industry.
Ultimately I’d like to work in the industry in an educative capacity, with research and a push for transparency in the supply chain, consulting, speaking and presenting in hopes to facilitate a public awareness and appreciation for high quality, ethical and sustainable fashion choices.
Career history / Company history:
Though I have worked in education for 5 years since graduating my undergraduate, I am currently working for a Social Enterprise, Green Collect. The organisation provides employment for a number of marginalised individuals through their Upcycle efforts and ultimate goal of diverting quality goods from landfill. I coordinate one of their 3 retail stores, where we sell creative upcycled goods, sustainable new products and second hand bric-a-brac and apparel.
