A fusion of influences from ancient cultures, eastern religions and nature’s superlative design, paralleled with strong ethical values have been the driving force behind the conception of
“By Katie Walker” - an offshoot of her founding company Believer Jewellery.

Much of Katie Walker’s fine jewellery is brought to life by “green” gold mined from the Northernmost tip of what was the Incan Empire, and is therefore not only inspired by the
Inca but connected to them and their lands on a spiritual level.

During her global search for a greener gold such as this, Katie uncovered the dark side of precious metals - the ongoing war waged by militia groups in Congo to control a significant supply of the world’s gold, diamonds and other minerals. A humanitarian nightmare that has claimed the lives of millions and has giving rise to the Congo being labeled “the deadliest place on Earth to be a woman.” And an absolute paradox to the gesture in which jewellery is gifted and worn and to every value Katie holds.

With this in mind, Katie creates exclusively with conflict free, certified Fairtrade Silver & Ecological Amazonian Gold, ensuring the livelihoods of the indigenous are protected and rewarded fairly and that the environment is treated sustainably with ongoing love and respect.

Career history / Company history:

After reading the book 'Half the Sky' founder Katie Walker was inspired to learn and do more for pressing issues facing women and children in developing countries:

"Becoming a parent changes your perspective on love and life. I couldn't simply forget or ignore what I had learnt about the terrifying issues facing women in Asia and sub Saharan Africa; their lives and those of their children. As a mother and a woman, I feel a responsibility to help in any way I can."

And so the concept of Believer was born and Katie was inspired to make change through ethical and fair trade jewellery, highlighting a social responsibility for product source and providing the public with an avenue to learn and help.

Believer isn't simply jewellery, it's a statement and a following of responsible shoppers who stand up for what they believe in and contribute to changing the world, one cause at a time.
