I studied Fashion and Marketing and gained 1st Class honours from Newcastle Polytechnic in 1983. Following this I had a menswear business selling ‘up-cycled’ shirts to small boutique shops around the country. (Actually, the term ‘up-cycled’ hadn’t been coined back then!).
After working in music and animation television production from 1987 to 1994, I moved away from the work place to bring up my children.
I decided to start my own business again when my youngest was about 3. I was having lots of ideas I wanted to try out. I enjoy working for myself and making my own decisions, but I also like collaborating with other people to bring ideas to life.
I have launched two clothing labels: babyblack and SuperNatural Kids Clothing.
I took a very early decision to create brands which take into account the environmental and social footprints of fashion and textile production. Both my logos are based on the Yin Yang symbol for balance.
