Profile Information

Profession / role:
Company / organisation:
Eloise Grey
Website (if you have one):
My primary role in relation to fashion is:
Consumer, Designer, Buyer, Retailer, Manufacturer, Tutor
I am looking to discover or buy
beautiful textiles, interesting people, very very keen to find others who want to produce & make in the UK, develop a luxury retail concept around luxury UK-produced clothing and accessories. I'd like to stop searching one day.
About me / About business or organisation:
I have my own ethical fashion label specialising in the luxury sector. I work with fabrics which are artisan-produced where there is a connection to the makers and the land on which the materials are cultivated. I also specialise in UK produced garments as I want to keep my production as close as possible to the source, thus keeping skills in the UK and the carbon footprint as low as possible. My signature collection is ladies' coats and jackets tailored in certified organic tweeds from the Isle of Mull Weavers at Ardalanish Farm, in Scotland.

I am opening a small shop in Farnham in September 2009.
Career history / Company history:
My first degree is in Italian. I lived in Italy for five years, mainly teaching. I also fitted in a couple of years in South America (and fell in love with the textiles and the colours).

My second degree is in Electronic Publishing. I worked in the internet industry as a product manager. I learnt about branding and corporate life.

I gave up doing degrees. I picked up my first love, making clothes. I learnt to tailor, cut patterns, illustrate and developed a capsule collection of ladies coats in 2007.

Threading through these three chapters I always loved clothes, fabrics and began to worry about the environment and where and how things were produced. I had roots in the Highlands which I nurtured quietly. I read and wrote.

I won the International Design Awards competition "Land + Sea" for sustainable fashion in 2008.

I showed at London Fashion Week in February 2009.

I started teaching sewing skills at the beautiful and a little exclusive West Dean College in 2009.

Dear Eloise,

My name is Laricea Ioana Roman and I am a student at Kingston University, London (KU ID 0942659). I am doing a Master in Marketing, Advertising and Communications and at the moment I am writing my Dissertation. My topic is related to ethical clothing, more specifically, I am investigating how personal values influence customers' decision to buy ethical clothing. In order to come up with some answers for my topic, I need some opinions from people who actually bought ethical clothes.

This is the reason why I am kindly asking you to help me and fill in my questionnaire. It will take you no more than 10 minutes and you can win three books and £30 vouchers!

Thank you for your consideration,

Laricea Ioana Roman

Hello there Eloise,
I have been working with natural fibres in Nepal for a long time now and can supply you with fibre, yarns, textiles, as well as finished goods. Please have a look at www.heavenhemp.co.uk and www.wildweaves.co.uk to get an idea of what we do. I work with hemp, nettle, cactus, banana, bamboo . I also have a small workshop where we make bags, clothing and rugs from natural fibres. Hope to hear from you and would like to be your friend. Take care,
