Profile Information

Profession / role:
Company / organisation:
Website (if you have one):
My primary role in relation to fashion is:
Retailer, Supplier
I am looking to discover or buy
PR and media professionals, and other like-minded designers who may want to collaborate.
About me / About business or organisation:
We are the UK’s first ethical brand selling exclusively silk fashion accessories for women. Our first spring collection combining ethics, luxury and allure is available online at www.asparasilk.com.

Aspara’s eco line of accessories, ethically produced in Cambodia by fair trade weaving communities, revives a thousand year old tradition almost destroyed by decades of civil war.

Chic and slouchy, delicate organza or a tote-allicious piece of arm candy, the beautifully designed ethical bags mean they can be used for work or play. Whatever the budget the diverse collection offers something tempting for every woman with an eye for style and a heart of gold!
Career history / Company history:
From diplomat to eco-designer: Named after the Aspara dancers depicted in temples made famous by Angelina Jolie in Tomb Raider, I gave up my UN career to return to the UK and set up the Aspara label in 2009. Managing development projects on the ground from Cambodia to Fiji, I loved my work but felt I could effect greater change through fair trade not donor aid. Inspired by the revival of the silk industry in Cambodia, I left my overseas post to open up market access for rural silk weaving communities. My commitment to aid work continues, and assignments from the Gobi Desert to Geneva have secured the funding to finance my first UK collection.

Dear Katy,

My name is Laricea Ioana Roman and I am a student at Kingston University, London (KU ID 0942659). I am doing a Master in Marketing, Advertising and Communications and at the moment I am writing my Dissertation. My topic is related to ethical clothing, more specifically, I am investigating how personal values influence customers' decision to buy ethical clothing. In order to come up with some answers for my topic, I need some opinions from people who actually bought ethical clothes.

This is the reason why I am kindly asking you to help me and fill in my questionnaire. It will take you no more than 10 minutes and you can win three books and £30 vouchers!

Thank you for your consideration,

Laricea Ioana Roman

Hello there katy,
Thank you for your lovely message. I have been working for many years now and made all the clothing for Mother Hemp Ltd. before so have a lot of experience and hours of work put into this. I try and get orders from other people and make their designs, but thought that I should do some of mine too so that I do not have to always rely on other people for orders and also have a listen to so many people who think they know it all when they come to this side of the world. If you want cashmere/silk, I think we will be able to make the yarns for you. Keep in touch and hope will be able to meet up when I come to the UK next. Take care and thank you once again .

Hello there Katy,
I have been working with natural fibres in Nepal for a long time now and can supply you with fibre, yarns, textiles, as well as finished goods. Please have a look at www.heavenhemp.co.uk and www.wildweaves.co.uk to get an idea of what we do. I work with hemp, nettle, cactus, banana, bamboo . I also have a small workshop where we make bags, clothing and rugs from natural fibres. We also do Nepali silk. Hope to hear from you and would like to be your friend. Take care,

Hi Katy

Wow your work sounds so exciting, how often do you go over to Cambodia? Have you begun promoting these cooperatives or are you on just starting out now? The Ethical Fashion Forum will be having a marketplace at the end of this year, exhibitors will be production units and farmers- the aim is the same as yours, to create links between them and designers and brands.
