Carolina Gomez 'Can El Salvador develop and sustain homegrown design'

Carolina’s dissertation discusses working conditions in 'maquilas' and includes interviews with a maquila manager, a maquila employee and a member of the textile dressmaking society. They help inform on what is happening in El Salvador and what the future holds for maquilas and its employees when American business are outsourcing to Asian countries such as China and India. After analysis it provides a viable solution to the lack of a design industry in countries like El Salvador and how these would help the industry workers.
