Career history / Company history:
One of my first interactions and memories of fabric was when my family lived in Rajshahi, west Bangladesh in the late 60’s. I would eat the fruit from the mulberry trees while smelling the production of silk from the silk cocoons. From the early 80’s I have been working in the handloom sector of Bangladesh. I am a developer and promoter of traditional handloom fabrics and artisans of my country. I love understanding the construction of fabrics as this gives me an insight of how I can intervene and make the fabrics more relevant to today’s market.
My current work is focusing on the development of natural indigo mordanting and dying and product development of Prabartana’s hand spun khadi, natural dye and indigenous textiles range.
Love your work Shahid,
i've finally worked out how to work this big ethical love machine! My last child move out recently and I have time to explore, yay! and can I be your friend? (not sure how we adopt).
I am interested in using a heavy decorative indiginous tapestry combined with leather so that it suits ladies handbag weight, what is the heaviest weight in gms of the handlooms that you can produce and is it durable?
Thanks for all your efforts and hope we can make this work! G :D
Hi my friend,
Sorry for my delayed reply. That weight sounds great & quite heavy and would suit some ideas, so if you do a variety of weights up to that is good for me.
I will get to work and send some development ideas and inquiries to you soon.
Do you happen to know of any leather tanneries or suppliers that have eco friendly leathers eg. chrome free or vegetable dye leathers? and also fairtrade leather bag manufactures in India?
Looking forward to your feedback.
Regards, Gyorgyi
Hey, I have just looked at all your photos and read your profile and all your work sounds amazing!
I wanted to get in touch with you to talk more about the work you do and how you set it all up.
Last ear I graduated from London where i studied textile design and I specialised in woven textiles and so seeing your work has really inspired me.
I wanted to know more about how you wanted to collaborate with people, and how you construct your work.
Really look forward to hearing back from you.
many thanks
Holly
