Event Description

On Friday, May 30, 2014, the Gabby Wild Foundation will host Elephantasia – a glamorous safari-themed evening dedicated to the majestic elephants as well as environmental fashion. Hosted in conjunction with the Wildlife Conservation Society, the benefit will take place at the Central Park Zoo and will feature the first fashion show ever at the Zoo. Specially priced $96 pre-sale tickets will be available exclusively online at www.gabbywild.com for a limited time only. After 4/22, ticket prices will become $196 and VIP will be $996.
The Zoo will be transformed into a wildlife safari for a magical night of cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, music, eco-fashion and dancing. Celebrity DJ Donna D’Cruz will be spinning as guests mingle around the Sea Lions, learn about the beauty and plight of African Elephants, admire the eco-fashion gallery and savor local fare. The entire event will be sustainably constructed with everything from the run of shows printed on replantable wildflower seed paper to the repurposed runway to organic cotton goody bags. The highlight of the evening will be the most spectacular and the greenest ecofashion show to date. The first of its kind, the Elephantasia Fashion Show will bring together designers from as far away as Australia, Israel, the Philippines and Italy, and will celebrate environmentally aware design and manufacturing. From couture-style gowns created from children’s storybooks to Alpaca ready-to-wear, all the designers are passionate about their craft and reducing the footprint on our planet.
With 600+ international guests expected, including top press, royalty, celebrities, fashion editors, and designers including past finalists from Lifetime’s Project Runway, this event is going to be nothing short of epic.

WHY: 96 African elephants are slaughtered every day by ivory poachers. Between 2002 and 2013, 65 percent of Central Africa’s forest elephants were killed. In 2012 alone, approximately 35,000 were slaughtered. African elephants are the largest land animals on the planet, and they are also one of the most in peril. Without immediate help, they are in danger of becoming extinct. 100% of funds raised by the Elephantasia benefit and fashion show will be directed toward the preservation of the last three species of African elephants. These funds will be rewarded to The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and the Elephant Listening Project (ELP) to engage stricter protective measures and to introduce newly engineered elephant and poaching monitoring equipment.
