We would like to offer your students the opportunity to visit the Ethical Fashion Forum's SOURCE Expo for a greatly reduced rate.
The EFF SOURCE Expo: 17th-18th October, Sadler's Wells, London, EC1R 4TN.
The SOURCE Expo showcases inspirational suppliers and manufacturers from all over the world, working to fair trade, ethical and organic standards, linking them directly with hundreds of designers, retailers and brands. Now in its third season, the event includes a programme of seminars, introducing new products and exemplary supply and production systems, a Designer Pavilion showcasing some of the most inspirational design led fashion from around the world, a trends area and more.
We at the EFF are keen to involve students in the development of the sustainable fashion industry. For this reason we are offering a wonderful opportunity to visit the SOURCE Expo at a greatly reduced rate. We can offer a Student Package of 10 student tickets for only £50. (Usual price is £15 per student). With each student package purchased  we will admit one tutor free of charge. In return we ask only that you promote this offer throughout your student network.
So if your students can get into groups of 10 and purchase their tickets together this would be a wonderful chance to expand their knowledge of the sustainable fashion industry.
Please Note: these tickets are only valid for Monday 17th October, and do not include access to seminars, tickets for which must be purchased separately.
For more information on the SOURCE Expo please visit our website: http://www.ethicalfashionforum.com/source-expo-2011
To purchase the Student Package please visit this page: http://www.ethicalfashionforum.com/expo-group-discount

This offer is part of our soon to launch a University and College partnership programme, aiming to provide students with affordable access to the SOURCE Platform, including the SOURCE Intelligence: the world's leading source of sustainable fashion business intelligence, and the SOURCE Database: the world's most comprehensive ethical sourcing and business database for the fashion sector. If you feel your students would benefit from this please drop by the SOURCE Membership Lounge at the Expo to discuss the options further.

Many Thanks, look forward to seeing you at the Expo!

Hi Carmel

There are lots of great teaching ideas for this age group on the Fashioning an Ethical Industry website, under the pre-16 and Further Education headings here: http://www.fashioninganethicalindustry.org/resources/teachingmateri...

You can also check out social alterations website.

Some simple activities:
1. Get the students to look at the labels in their clothes and call out the countries. Use this as a basis to discuss where clothes are made and why (where are the big fashion brands based, where are most clothes produced, what is outsourcing) etc. You can take this in lots of directions.
2. Use the FEI quiz at http://www.fashioninganethicalindustry.org/resources/teachingmateri...
3. Run in a really simple simulation of a factory using paper - see http://www.fashioninganethicalindustry.org/resources/teachingmateri...
4. Show a film - lots available at http://www.fashioninganethicalindustry.org/resources/ChinaBlue/ - I think students of that age may be inspired by Blood Sweat and T-shirts.
5. Book a workshop with Fashioning an Ethical Industry http://www.fashioninganethicalindustry.org/newsandevents/workshops/...
6. Set a project for the students to get them to research more.

Other useful organisations with materials for teachers (also featured on the FEI site): Traid, Pesticides Action Network, Practical Action

Hope that's useful

Fashioning an Ethical Industry is a Labour Behind the Label project that works with students and tutors on fashion related courses to give a global overview of the garment industry, raise awareness of current company practices and of initiatives to improve conditions, and inspires students - as the next generation of industry players - to raise standards for workers in the fashion industry of the future.

We run student workshops, organise tutor training events, provide teaching resources and work with tutors to integrate ethical issues related to garment manufacture into their teaching. The ultimate objective of the project is to embed social responsibility issues in the teaching of all fashion related further and higher education courses.

Take a look at our website for more information; http://fashioninganethicalindustry.org/home/
