What we do

You’re unique. But it can be kind of hard to express it sometimes. Those leopard-skin shoes might be missing the mark. So, thank goodness for Etch. We make it easy for you to express your originality.

These days, everyone has smartphones and other gadgety gadgets. Even my mum. But now you can make your device truly yours.

At Etch, we laser-etch your artwork, or art from our Artwork series, onto your Apple products or other popular devices. We do our stuff on our own rather lovely bamboo cases, products in our store or onto the device itself. The choice is yours.

You can also choose to send us your device (guaranteed post or courier, obvs) or book a slot and come to sunny Portsmouth.

So what’s the bamboo thing? You’ll love this. A Moso bamboo case gives your iPhone or iPad the warm, natural feeling that only organic materials can provide. We simmer, stir, cut to size, precision-shape, tickle with sandpaper and finish with massage oil (the bamboo loves this).

By the time we’ve added a felt lining, the end result is rather beautiful. You’ll be stopped in the street. So be sure to blame us.

The Future

Whilst we don’t spend our time hugging trees, we do quite like the planet and can’t think of a better place to live. While similar products can be as sustainable as a snowball on a bonfire, our focus on bamboo and other organic materials makes us an ecological smartypants.

We keep right up to date with the latest technology releases (by reading the colour supplements) and, while our current focus is on the iPhone and iPad, we do have new products on the horizon and are always looking to expand our range in new and innovative directions.

Our Story

So why do we do this? Why are we not certified accountants or shepherds? Well, in a world of mass-produced commercialism, we want you to be as unique as a snowflake. But a bit warmer.

And who are we? We’re a bunch of arty perfectionists trying to save the world from mass-produced, identical products using beautiful, handcrafted (sustainable) cases and etchings. All work guaranteed and free UK delivery, too.

We might just be unique ourselves.

Based in Portsmouth (right by the ships), we provide high standards of craftsmanship. We achieve this because of the way we operate and because we have direct contact with our customers. We’re dedicated perfectionists fuelled only by strong coffee and takeaways. If we’re not happy with our products, they don’t leave our workshop.

It’s our goal to bring art into everyday life. On a practical level, a handcrafted case protects your device from daily wear and tear. It can also make people at parties drool, which can work to your advantage. In short, if you’re looking for Mainstream Avenue, you probably took a wrong turn.

Work together

You’ll have read every single word of our lovely website (obvs), so you’ll know we like to work with other creatives. If you have a bright idea or you own a company and want to work with us to produce something wonderful, don’t hesitate to get in touch. Here at Etch, we like to keep things organic and try and work within communities of creatives (although not in wigwams) to create more natural outputs and help to promote talented people who deserve praise and sweets.
