Cotton prices highest they've ever been (140 years since trading began)

The farmers will benefit, but the industry is in disarray. Without stability, it is impossible to plan. Prices quoted one day are meaningless the next.

Dear Prama
Thank you for connecting with me.
I was born in Nairobi and went to St Marks and Greensteads schools before my folks moved to Swaziland and then SA. We had family in Arusha (Moshe) and remember spending quite a few holidays there. Unfortunately I was only 7 when we left Kenya, but I have always had a strong feeling towards the country. My brother has a fishing charter business in Zanzibar. I still have business in SA which I am going to try and keep going, but would like to set up a base and business in either Tanz or Kenya. I would be really keen to chat to you. My email address is andrew@group9uk.com. Look forward to hearing from you and more about your business in UK and Tanz. Kr Andrew

My name is Sophia and I'm the co-founder of a non-profit called Raven + Lily. We are located in Los Angeles, CA but we work with co-ops mainly in India and East Africa. We just returned from a trip to East Africa (kenya, ethiopia and burundi) about 3 weeks ago to meet the co-ops, source fabrics, and get to know the women that we're supporting.

Our non-profit works on designs with these co-ops, pays them a fair wage, helps them market and sell their goods to the U.S. Market and then sends the proceeds back to the local co-op communities.

We are really having trouble sourcing african prints made locally within Africa. most seem to be made in India and Africa. Do you have any vendors you would recommend?

This is a picture of what we found but the vendor is no longer able to get this material. If you have pictures of your printed cottons, I'd be very interested to see them.

Hi Prama,
We are looking to source some cotton fabrics (prints and solids) for our co-ops in Burundi, East Africa. Was wondering if we could discuss more about your capabilities and what kind of minimums you have. We are a start-up so our quantities are starting out somewhat small. (www.ravenandlily.com). thanks! -sophia
