As a lush green summer gives way to cooler days and more colorful trees, One Warm Coat, the largest nonprofit dedicated to donating and distributing free coats to people in need, and outerwear outdoor retailer Eddie Bauer are making sure as many people as possible get a coat this winter.
Kicking off on October 1st in Boston, Massachusetts and moving to Detroit, Michigan, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Salt Lake City, Utah, Chicago, Illinois, Denver, Colorado, Boulder, Colorado and ending November 21st in Seattle, Washington, visitors to Eddie Bauer retail stores in these cities will be able to donate their used coats to help people in their community. Anybody who donates a coat on-site will receive a 20 percent discount coupon from Eddie Bauer.
In addition to being able to donate a coat, some visitors will be rewarded with a chance to check out the Eddie Bauer First Ascent custom Airstream trailer, which has travelled around the country with First Ascent guides testing new mountaineering and ski gear, and coincides with the coat drives.
“As the only national nonprofit to work on this scale of coat collection and distribution, One Warm Coat is honored to be able to partner with Eddie Bauer, a true leader in outdoor gear,” says Sherri Lewis Wood, president of One Warm Coat. “Together we can continue to raise awareness of the needs of our communities and ways that we might be able to help them to get their needs met.”
Eddie Bauer and the company he started in Seattle 90 years ago have a long history of giving back to the community. In fact, Bauer himself said, “I felt it was my duty to always put back more than I took.” He also understood the importance of providing warmth.
“Eddie Bauer knew more than anyone that a jacket can save a life. In fact, he patented the first down jacket in the U.S. after nearly freezing to death on a fishing trip,” said Neil Fiske, president and CEO of Eddie Bauer. “In partnering with One Warm Coat, we hope to raise awareness about the increasing need for this basic necessity and impact communities where our stores are located.”
