About me / About business or organisation:
I launched the company ahilya in 2008 and as an ultra fine cashmere brand, we are committed to preserving and engaging with Kashmir's textile traditions. The cashmere is hand spun, hand woven and hand dyed, allowing local artisans to continue working as they have done for centuries in India. Yet the company is based in London and ahilya scarves combine the aesthetic of Kashmir with the freshness and creativity of London emerging talents and designers.
Career history / Company history:
After law studies and a long experience as consultant for important firms, I decided to make documentary films and focused on the challenges faced by traditional communities.
I never intended to become a textile artist but my wedding journey opened my eyes to the complex traditions of Kashmir and passion for cashmere got the better of me. After acquiring an impressive technical knowledge of the production process of cashmere shawls, I launched my ultrafine cashmere company, ahilya, in 2008.
