Karen Ter Morshuizen, is a natural. And in more than one sense of the word. For not only is she blessed with great aesthetic instincts, but she is also one who finds her very inspiration in nature itself.
In Karen’s own words, “I find beauty in the small things. Things that have existed around us forever and yet these same elements continue to overwhelm our senses, even today “
Consistent to the source of her inspiration, Karen’s designs have always incorporated an abundance of natural and organic fabrics, full of texture and strong yet subtle colour - that seemingly comes from the earth itself. But the real delight in her work often arrives in the rather surprising collision of these source materials with Karen’s confident, and most contemporary, design edge.
Karen enjoys reinventing the traditional craft techniques of knitting, naïve embroidery, felting and darning, she then combines them with some of the purest fabrics today’s world has on offer. The result is a compelling range of exceptionally strong, clean lined and very wearable clothes, with a wonderful hand made twist.
Naturally.
Career history / Company history:
LUNAR VISION
Lunar is a South African lifestyle and clothing brand founded by designer Karen Ter Morshuizen and her husband Paul Harris. The brand is sensitive to environmental concerns and has been working at educating the South African consumer for over a decade.
The principles of organic options, responsible business practices and the preservation of nature have always been high on their list of priorities. They do not profess to be experts or purists in this regard but rather responsible designers leading the movement in South Africa.
Karens love of nature stems directly from her upbringing and the privilege of spending holidays on a family Fynbos farm – Karen wanted to ensure that future generations could enjoy the same experiences. Why fashion? Karen has always believed that what we wear, dress our homes in and surround ourselves with says a lot about who we are.
It has taken a long time but finally being green has become a powerful tool that can be used to glamorize eco options.
Lunar strives to continue to educate, innovate and inspire.
