Hi Elaine, I simply design the tartans althought I choose the pre-a-porter range and accessories. Outfits are designed by various designers; nyone in fact who wants to create a greater awareness of their country whilst producing something original. Each tartan uses the colours in a nation's flag.
Given that 90+% of the fashionwear I see is fairly similar in appearance and has no real identity this does offer designers something a bit different.
I tried to start a debale on this site on the definitions of ethical, sustainable and eco-friendy because I think they are being used a bit casually. Simply paying a few pennies more for a garment doesn't make it somehow 'ethical', but it does ease the conscience of western consumers. Personally, I think it has to do more with where the profits go and who actually controls the business.

Dear Elaine,

Hope you will be interested to learn about my recently launched, ethical accessories co., NV London Calcutta, shortlisted, in our launch season, for the EFF's Innovation Award and recently named Future 100 Social Entrepreneur of the Year 2009.

Please do visit our site www.NVLondonCalcutta.com where you can view the current collection & learn more about the people and processes behind the label.

All our goods are designed in Britain, but produced in India, specifically West Bengal, using an IFAT registered manufacturer, locally sourced, natural materials, traditional production methods and environmentally friendly dyes etc.

Please let me know if you would like any further information. If you send me your email I will also keep you posted of our forthcoming 2010 new arrivals.

If you'd like to be kept up to date with our happenings remotely, you can join our mailing list on the NV Family Page, or become a fan of our Facebook page - NV London Calcutta.

Best wishes,

Naomi
