About me / About business or organisation:
Ela – which means ‘Mother Earth’ in Sanskrit, is an organic clothing label designed by Joyjit
and introduced by the Creative Group. Essentially inspired by innumerable facets of human
emotions, the creations invoke elements of spontaneity and naivety.

Ela believes that the future of fashion lies in making it sustainable. Hence, it aims at bringing
in a balance between the satisfaction of wearing clothes that have a lasting integrity and
preservation of the environment and social welfare.

We at Ela, wish to leave behind the world of preconception that organic clothing is only about
basic silhouettes. That it is possible to create a beautiful high fashion clothing line which not
only helps in reducing the carbon footprints but also helps in building a happy, clean and green
world for our future generations.
Career history / Company history:
Ela is the brainchild of Joyjit Talukdar, the creative and lead designer of the brand. A design graduate from NIFT, Joyjit has won the best design collection award for his graduating show in 2002. Since then he has been a part of the Creative Group, the company associated with the launch of Ela.

Joyjit’s design sensibilities are a result of his experience working with some of the renowned fashion labels across the world such as XXX, XXX. His passion for design is now being translated into eco friendly clothing under the brand name Ela.

Joyjit has been motivated and inspired by the growing social and environmental movement globally. By using ethical and ecological manufacturing techniques, Joyjit’s collection reflects his philosophy that we can make a conscious choice with clothes that can create a better world for our future generations. His clothing embodies the ideology taking root across the world that all roads to the future of fashion lie in making it sustainable.

Born in Shillong, Joyjit graduated from Cotton College with English Honors. His personal interests involve understanding and researching about various indigenous tribes from across the world, particularly their textiles. With Joyjit’s personal background, he has always had a natural penchant for all things related to Northern Eastern regions and the simple elegance that exudes from some the indigenous tribes is reflected in his work. Joyjit takes a lot of inspiration out of his personal passion in various artistic expressions like artwork, film-making, music, photography, theatre and classical as well as new dance forms.
