The Base Project was created by Chris & Doug Akin, entrepreneurial twin brothers, The Base Project is a socially-motivated fashion brand building a bridge between artisans in the developing world and the US fashion market. The Base Project partners with local artisans, commissioning locally-sourced, Eco-friendly product at fair trade wages. Chris Akin is a diehard social entrepreneur who lives to blend commerce and social responsibility. Previously, Chris was the COO of a media company, AdWalls. An avid surfer, Chris also founded Locean Labs, a skincare line designed for ocean athletes.

Over the last decade, Chris served as the acting president of numerous non-profit organizations, (such as The Boys and Girls Club Alliance Board, and Envision Hawaii). His desire to blend philanthropic work with entrepreneurialism and travel fueled him to co-create The Base Project
Career history / Company history:
The Base Project was started in 2012 by Chris and Doug Akin. TBP presently works with several dozen artisans in Namibia and Ghana. The brand officially started selling across the United States in 2013. The Base Project can be found in over 100+ boutiques across the country; Nordstrom, Urban Outfitters, TOAST UK; in Europe and Asia. In the last year The Base Project was featured in publications ranging from Lucky Magazine,People Magazine, The Huffington Post, NY Daily News, the Zoe Report, and beyond.

In June of 2014 The Base Project broke ground on a 42-acre community farm in the northwest desert of Namibia,
