byHewitt- Luxury Ethical, Organic and Ecologically Sound Menswear
My primary role in relation to fashion is:
Designer
I am looking to discover or buy
Like minded people.
About me / About business or organisation:
byHewitt is as a standard Reliable, Ethical, Sustainable, Organic, Innovative, Luxury Menswear.
Every product created by byHewitt, will be the best possible product we can produce and one that encapsulates our brand ethos.
Supernature
The first byHewitt product will be a style led menswear label called Supernature. The Supernature line has been inspired by Timeless vintage garments that I have collected over the last 20 years. Supernature clothing is not made for individuals that buy cheap and often, but for those who carefully collect garments they can live in. We see The Supernature client as a purveyor of taste, not trends. Every detail of Supernature is timeless, tended to and crafted to reflect this curatorial approach to consumerism. Supernature has been a labour of love. It has taken 2 1/2 years for me to source the best possible fabric and manufacturers to meet not only the byHewitt ethical components but also the meticulous fabrication standards needed to produce a luxury product.
The manufacture of the Supernature line will take place in Canada, Peru and the USA. To achieve the desired authenticity that is integral to Supernature I have secured a former Carhartt sewer to produce Supernature jeans, chinos, worker pants, jackets and hats. A generational family run manufacturer who has handmade shirts for Gieves & Hawk, Aquascutum and Dunhill will produce ours. Supernature Sweats and Tees will be produced at an Old family run Knitter and Sewer in Montreal. Supernature knitwear will be fully fashioned in Peru at an organic cooperative knitter using locally sourced organic wool and cashmere. Our denim took me from Japan to America and finally back to Japan where I have found what I believe to be the best denim in the world.
Supernature will go live in late September 2009 with the launch of the byHewitt - Supernature web site that will house the first collection and more about the brand
Career history / Company history:
I have been a dedicated follower of fsshion from the age of 13. I worked in the Toronto film industry in my early twenties. In my mid twenties I fell into a career as a chef. In my early thirties I decided to change direction and went to Art school. At the same time I started selling vintgae clothing at Portabello Market. This led to tailoring and pattern cutting courses. I then moved my business to Islington's Camden Passage. Currently when not working on Supernature I source clothes for various design houses.
