About me / About business or organisation:
As a designer it is my intent to unearth and utilize the power of nature in urban environments. Growing up in New York City, I was raised on concrete playgrounds and tarmac, yet was always fascinated by the way nature always found its way up and out of the cracks and imperfections beneath my feet. Inspired by this act of urban phototropism, nature’s way of always growing towards the sun, I sought out and mapped the areas of London that have meant something to me in my five year stay. Inspired by the Flaneurs, I began my process simply walking. Armed with a camera and notebook, she documented my trips by taking photos and foraging for bits of nature I could use for dyes. I realized along my way that not only could I use the weeds and mosses that I found, but the relationships I grew with the businesses she passed were of equal importance. Fish shops gave her excess squid ink, florists cut flowers, and grocers and restaurants donated the skins of their onions. As an avid map enthusiast, she wanted to find a way to graphically link the dyes to their provenance, creating a sense of origin as well as place to the narrative they were helping her create. Thus creating the diagrammatic schemes linking my photographs to my collages and culminating in the prints seen on my garments. All garments were dyed with natural matter found and sourced in London, creating unique and one of a kind interchangeable pieces that the wearer can be confident are exclusively her own.
