Hi Alison,

DAFT will be joining with a group of designer makers, artists, poets, drummers and other creative types to present samples of upcycled fashion and art.

A chance to discuss ethical fashion and how you can make a difference.

There will also be a garment printing workshop, where you can customise one of your own pieces using low - tech techniques to achieve exciting visual results.
...
So...
Bring your own t-shirt, top, jacket, jeans or skirt you'd like to give a new edge, a small contribution for materials (money or cake, not fussy) and have some fun creating & meeting new people.

ABOUT THE OLD PRINT WORKS

A community of artists and craftspeople, based in an energy efficient building - the Old Print Works on the Moseley rd.
Business and community working together and sharing the space.
Rent, buy and community investment models.
Along with workshop areas and studio spaces will be display areas, community space and a cafe.

Would be great to see you there,

Danny

Dear Alison,

Hope you will be interested to learn about my ethical accessories co., NV London Calcutta, shortlisted, in our launch season, for the EFF's Innovation Award and named a Future 100 Social Entrepreneur of the Year 2009.

Please do visit our site www.NVLondonCalcutta.com where you can view the current collection & learn more about the people and processes behind the label.

All our goods are designed in Britain, but produced in India, specifically West Bengal, using an IFAT registered manufacturer, locally sourced, natural materials, traditional production methods and environmentally friendly dyes etc.

Please let me know if you would like any further information. If you send me your email I will also keep you posted of our forthcoming 2010 new arrivals.

Best wishes,

Naomi

Hi Alison, I dont know if it will help you I am very questioning about the definitions of ethical, sustainable and organic and I would like others to be as well.
I dont believe that simply paying a slightly higher wage (which is still a pittance) to growers and producers is ethical enough. Its the fairer division of profit that should count to make something 'Fair Trade' and without it sustainability is threatened..
I design textiles and have them produced them in wool. For practical reasons I am trying to have to produce them in cotton but Im very cautious because 'organic' simply isn't good enough if it means that the local water supply is diverted away from food production to provide the west with material.
I regulary work with fashion collerges on joint projects
