About me / About business or organisation:
I am currently interning at a fashion agency called Talk PR through the Taylor Bennett Foundation diversity programme. It has thus far been an amazing opportunity for me to set up roots in London, as I am would like to get into public affairs/ethical fashion PR at some point. Being on this programme has allowed me the opportunity to meet industry professionals and make a wide network of contacts.
I worked in Nepal during 2010-2011, where I worked for an NGO hospital, and had the opportunity to write for a national daily newspaper while I was there, promoting ethical fashion and women's wear in general. I also met with British accessories designer Laura Queening (of Aura Que) who showed me personally where her products were made in Nepal and her work with the Nepal Leprosy Trust.
After I graduated with a Merit from UCLAN in MA International Journalism, I aimed to continue to raise awareness of fair trade/ethical fashion through my writing. Fair trade has always been a really important issue to me and all it takes is a little education for people to realise how we can all support ethical clothing. I also believe that the best way to help developing countries is not by "aid" but through "trade", which is why supporting handicraft groups in rural Kenya, for example, makes such a difference to the world's economy, and people's lives. With rising interest in sustainable clothing, organic cotton and minimising waste, it's the perfect time to stand up and say you care about fashion.
