Profile Information:

Profession / role:
The Ethical Fashion Forum (EFF) is a new kind of trade association for the fashion industry, led by businesses, for businesses, and focused on social and environmental sustainability. The fashion industry remains one of the most exploitative in the world, both to people and the environment. Inhuman working conditions, poverty wages and shocking environmental damage are widespread. The Ethical fashion Forum aims to: • Make sure that businesses are aware of how they can become more sustainable, why it is important, and where to find the tools to do so • Achieve broad and fundamental change towards better practices in the fashion industry within the next 10 years • Create a model and precedent for industry change which can be drawn from and built upon by other industries The EFF approach is: INCLUSIVE: Open to designers, retailers, buyers, fair trade producers, manufacturers, NGO’s, fashion students and tutors, consumers… The EFF provides a platform for shared practices, pooling resources, communication and links across the industry. PROGRESSIVE: Complex, global supply chains make it difficult for fashion companies to implement sustainable standards in a single step. The EFF encourages progressive, structured practices towards sustainability. GRASS ROOTS: Founded by fashion designers and businesses in response to challenges to sustainable practices, the EFF has been designed and developed by the industry, for the industry. NOT FOR PROFIT A membership organisation, the EFF is focused upon poverty reduction, education and the environment, in relation to the fashion industry.

I do work with the rural underprivileged women to facilitate the process of improvement in their life, so that they can combat the hunger and provide support to the families especially the children for food, nutrition health and education. The theme what we follow is fashion for human development, as it's strongly believed, there is huge opportunity to make involved the rural women in fashion industries through developing their indigenous knowledge to modern skill and life skills. The women (mothers of the children studying in primary schools) produce the products where we provide the technical support for diversification and market linkage. The main production lines are fashion wear, fashion accessories, furnishing and home textile, and jute made products. They are 950 in number in the of Self-Help Groups where they have the full autonomy to operate and decision making. They raised capital (savings and investment) through weekly savings, and selling share among the members. They have the machines and equipment (garments) for two factories, one in urban and another in rural area. Apart from these they invested to government mutual fund also. In the rural areas the women producers joined home based farming project where they share the contributory fund raining with the government (100% contributory by the government) in urban they are about to have another group registration to the government Women and Children affairs department where they will have allowances during the pregnancy and breast feeding period. Most importantly some of them now provide training for the external trainees in the government project as resource person. You are most welcome to visit my profile and join in this combat against hunger to protect our children from being deprived.
