Hi Prama, i saw your comment on the Africa forum.
Im looking to produce cotton to my own designs or with my own designs on it either in cloth form or on finished products
  • David McGill

Hi Prama, can I get you on your info@mantisworld address?
  • Ishwari Vijay Thopte

    Hi Prama!

Im a Fashion Designer by profession and i plan to do my Masters in "Design Management for Fashion Industries" from London College of Fashion this fall. Your work background is quite colorful and interesting!
My research will mainly be in Ethical Fashion and Sustainable business practices. I was hoping to build contacts here. Can we be friends?
  • Ishwari Vijay Thopte

    Thanks for the prompt reply!
Like i said, i have an offer letter from LCF to do my MA in Design Management. But i also have an offer from Nottingham trent for Main Fashion Business. Now, considering my research will be in Ethical Fashion and Sustainable business practices, which college do you think is a better option? I have been trying to find out through the alumini's of both institutes, but have failed to gather a satisfactory reply that would help me decide!

    Hi Prama,
We are looking to source some cotton fabrics (prints and solids) for our co-ops in Burundi, East Africa. Was wondering if we could discuss more about your capabilities and what kind of minimums you have. We are a start-up so our quantities are starting out somewhat small. (www.ravenandlily.com). thanks! -sophia
  • Raven + Lily

My name is Sophia and I'm the co-founder of a non-profit called Raven + Lily. We are located in Los Angeles, CA but we work with co-ops mainly in India and East Africa. We just returned from a trip to East Africa (kenya, ethiopia and burundi) about 3 weeks ago to meet the co-ops, source fabrics, and get to know the women that we're supporting.

Our non-profit works on designs with these co-ops, pays them a fair wage, helps them market and sell their goods to the U.S. Market and then sends the proceeds back to the local co-op communities.

We are really having trouble sourcing african prints made locally within Africa. most seem to be made in India and Africa. Do you have any vendors you would recommend?

This is a picture of what we found but the vendor is no longer able to get this material. If you have pictures of your printed cottons, I'd be very interested to see them.

    Dear Prama
Thank you for connecting with me.
I was born in Nairobi and went to St Marks and Greensteads schools before my folks moved to Swaziland and then SA. We had family in Arusha (Moshe) and remember spending quite a few holidays there. Unfortunately I was only 7 when we left Kenya, but I have always had a strong feeling towards the country. My brother has a fishing charter business in Zanzibar. I still have business in SA which I am going to try and keep going, but would like to set up a base and business in either Tanz or Kenya. I would be really keen to chat to you. My email address is andrew@group9uk.com. Look forward to hearing from you and more about your business in UK and Tanz. Kr Andrew
