Bel Esprit, the online showroom for international designers of ethical fashion (www.belesprit.net), has expanded its support of ethical practices in the fashion industry with Fashion (Re)Construction (www.fashionreconstruction.com) , the online resource offering ethical sourcing options to fashion designers. The directory is now open to producers of ecological and fair labor products and services for fashion companies and is entirely free for listings and. Ethical suppliers (textile, notions, display, accessory components, production, etc.) to the industry may have their company, certifications and catalog listed on the site. Fair trade product manufacturers and artisan organizations may be listed in the directory if they offer private label services to manufacture products for other fashion companies. For a listing, contact belesprit [at] ureach.com

To help communities launch or expand apparel and textile related businesses, Bel Esprit launched Donate Design (www.donate-design.org), a program connecting communities with fashion industry experts and volunteers donating expertise and assistance. Communities may submit projects and requests for assistance, and professionals interested in donating advice, expertise and mentoring to developing businesses around the world may contact Donate Design to receive information on projects. Volunteers offer their help according to their ability and availability.

The Donate Design blog is accepting submissions from community leaders to tell the stories (written or video) of fair trade success in raising the standard of living for workers and their communities, and educate the industry and the public about the importance of ethical principles for workers, fashion companies and consumers. It is the mission of Bel Esprit to increase awareness of the importance of ethical principles in fashion, and promote the commitment to business principles that respect the world and its inhabitants.
Sustainable fashion in China?tag:ethicalfashionforum.ning.com,2011-01-20:2622461:Topic:792622011-01-20T14:44:14.147ZRosanne Trottierhttp://ethicalfashionforum.ning.com/profile/RosanneTrottier

Hi all,

I have recently come to the end of my contract with the Ethical Fashion Forum and will be travelling, writing and researching in South East Asia and India for the next 6 months. I would very much appreciate any recommendations of places to visit, people to meet whilst I am away, for the purpose of my blog, which you will find regularly here on the Network.

The bulk of my time (over 3 months) will be spent in India, from about the 10th January next year. Prior to that I will be in Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam, as well as briefly in Indonesia and Malaysia, having flown into Hong Kong.

If there is anything you would like to read about or to have researched in relation to ethical fashion in any of these countries then please do let me know. Do you work with garment factories, cotton growers or cooperatives in any of these places? Any suggestions, useful contacts or research topics would be much appreciated.

I look forward to hearing your ideas!
Many thanks
